First cast in 1905 by the Keystone Type Foundry, Regal Arcade was inspired by John Hancock Condensed. It was not until 1923 that the original version of the slab-serif was displayed in the American Type Founders Specimen Book. The powerful and witty specimen displayed strong vertical strokes and hard corners.

The 2022 revival unbracketed slab-serif carries itself with a gentle approach, but holds firm in the stable ground of each character. Regal Arcade has a consistent stroke weight across majuscules and minuscules to emphasize the high x-height. Select characters have ball terminals that bring a clever tone to the typeface. This specimen includes 4 styles for variety of use: Thin, Light, Regular, Semibold, and Bold.
